After submitting numerous writing prompts, here is one answer that stuck with me  A scripted show that exemplifies good character growth and conflict is the Mandalorian. In the Mandalorian, the main character Din Djarin is a bounty hunter who bestowed it upon himself to be a temporary guardian of an orphaned child. This tv series highlights the best qualities of a character-based drama: A main character with a narrow point of view or lifestyle, an anomaly that expands a main character’s thought process and lively hood, and a major change or development of the main character.

Din Djarin begins the show as a bounty hunter who lives to serve his Mandalorian clan (Children of the Watch); no job is too personal or sentimental for him. When he is not working, he is preparing his weapons and armor for his next contract. The show would be mundane if this is all we see; however, Din Djarin’s life changes once he encounters an orphan named Grogu.

In this character-based action drama, Grogu impacts Din Djarin by enabling him to look within himself and resolve numerous conflicts that are personal, not job-related like killing “bad guys.” Not only is Din Djarin risking his life as a new target from bandits and other bounty hunters who want Grogu, but he is also realizing his purpose in life may be more than his deadly paychecks.

The first season of the Mandalorian ends with Din Djarin’s major character change; he learns to live his life the way he intends, not what is bound by his clan's methods or code. He finds his new purpose as the full-time guardian of Grogu until he can deliver the foundling (orphan) safely to a proper home. This tv series resonates with audiences because Din Djarin is relatable to everyone; he hides and covers his emotions even though he should express them and learn to trust others, he blends in with others out of fear of judgment and failure, and he recognizes the actions of others are complex, not just good or bad-natured.
